Type D characteristic offers instantaneous short circuit response of 10-14 x normal rated current and overload response of 1.05 - 1.3 x normal rated current. This makes it ideal for control circuit protection where very high inrush currents are expected, ie transformers, motors and fluorescent lighting installations.
